Latrobe City Council is looking to identify places across Latrobe that may have heritage significance but have not previously been recognised through past heritage assessments.
Through this survey and a series of community consultation sessions, we're seeking your help to identify places, local stories and historical themes that are important to our area's heritage and could warrant further consideration for inclusion in the Heritage Overlay.
We're also interested in hearing your views on the potential establishment of a Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC) for Latrobe and the role it could play in supporting local heritage outcomes.

Stage 1 - Project Inception – March 2026
Heritage Gap Study and Heritage Advisory Committee has finished this stage
Officers undertook a review of previous volumes of Heritage Study 2010 and appointed a heritage consultant.
Stage 2 - Community Consultation – August 2026 – October 2026
Heritage Gap Study and Heritage Advisory Committee is currently at this stage
This engagement will seek community input in identifying potential heritage places in Latrobe and on the need and purpose of a heritage advisory committee.
Stage 3 – Shortlisting places and people – November 2026
this is an upcoming stage for Heritage Gap Study and Heritage Advisory Committee
Based on the consultation and desktop assessment, consultants will undertake site visits to create a final list of places to be considered for a heritage assessment.
Based on the response received for the HAC, interested people will be interviewed.
Stage 4 – Findings of the study and HAC – March 2027
this is an upcoming stage for Heritage Gap Study and Heritage Advisory Committee
Heritage citations will be created for a selected final list of places.
A final report will be prepared for findings and recommendations. for HAC.
Stage 5 – Implementation of the project into the Latrobe Planning Scheme – June 2027
this is an upcoming stage for Heritage Gap Study and Heritage Advisory Committee
A Planning Scheme Amendment will be undertaken to include heritage citations into Latrobe Planning Scheme.
