Building maintenance - 3%

    Buildings owned or managed by Latrobe City Council are maintained through regular inspections and maintenance to ensure they remain sage and comfortable for community use, while complying with building regulations.

    Capital works - 30%

    Capital Works are projects undertaken to either renew, upgrade or construct assets owned by Latrobe City Council, including:

    • Ensure existing infrastructure is maintained and protected
    • Asset management

    • After hours emergency works
    • Fixed plant and equipment replacement and upgrades
    • Renewal of all infrastructure including buildings, roads, footpaths and drainage

    Community safety - 3%

    Council is responsible for keeping the community safe in many ways, from local laws to environmental health, preparing for a response to natural disasters like floods or fire and subsequent recovery activities and ensuing compliance with building standards.

    These fields encompass animal management services such as pet registration and animal adoptions, food premise inspections, school crossing supervision, road safety education wastewater management and undertaking building compliance inspections, audits and education.



    Culture, leisure and recreation services - 12%

    Culture, leisure and recreation services include:

    • Four indoor leisure centres and three outdoor pools
    • 18 indoor stadiums/courts across four facilities
    • 60 sporting reserves, BMX tracks and skate parks
    • Maintain 626 hectares of open space parks and 14 hectares of garden beds
    • Maintain 15.6 hectares of wetlands and rain gardens
    • Maintain 127 playgrounds
    • Kerbside spraying and tree planting
    • Garden competition
    • Latrobe Regional Gallery
    • Gippsland Performing Arts Centre

    Economic development - 2%

    Economic development in Latrobe City includes:

    Environment - 1%

    Council cares for the environment in many ways, from managing bush land reserves and reviewing forestry coup compliance, to environmental education and providing Trust for Nature property rebates.

    Council offers biodiversity protection incentive program grants, organisation of  community tree planting, and management of approximately 400km of roadside noxious weeds

    Family and children - 15%

    Latrobe City Council offers a variety of services for families in the municipality including:

    Health services - 1%

    The Latrobe City Council's Maternal and Child Health Service (MCH) provides information, advice and support to parents of children aged 0 to 6 years. The service is provided by nurses, who in addition to being registered in general nursing and midwifery, have undertaken further training in family and child health.

    Libraries - 3%

    Libraries are more than books – they’re inclusive, safe places where people can access many resources such as magazines, computers, digital resources and research materials.

    Latrobe City Libraries provide education and social programs for all ages, host author talks and workshops, offer community meetings rooms, learning spaces and public computers.

    Parks and gardens - 10%

    Outdoor spaces are adored by people in Latrobe City and that’s why Council staff maintain many facilities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

    This includes 626 hectares of open space parks, 14 hectares of garden beds and 15.6 hectares of wetlands and rain gardens.

    Planning and building - 4%

    Council maintains a number of planning and building services including:

    • Building permit services
    • Pool barriers audit program
    • Ensure adherence to the Building Act 1993 and Planning and Environment Act 1987
    • Land use planning and permit application services
    • Land use planning research, policy and re-zoning

    Public lighting - 1%

    Council is responsible for the cost of installation and upkeep of public lighting in streets and parks. 

    Roads and transport - 8%

    Latrobe City Council is responsible for maintaining and renewing municipal roads, kerbs and channels.

    Tourism and events - 2%

    Council’s events and tourism team:

    • Support Latrobe City and broader Gippsland’s tourism industry
    • Operate Visitor Information Centre and services
    • Develop, attract and promote events
    • Support community and Council civic events
    • Facilitate the community event grant program

    Footpaths & Trails/ Cycleways network - 1%

    Council’s path assets underpin the community’s ability to gain pedestrian access properties and to move around Latrobe City.

    The Latrobe City path network seeks to provide a safe environment where community members can gain pedestrian access (including the use of mobility devices), bicycle access or enjoy recreational exercise through walking and/or cycling.
