Proposed Reopening of Chestnut Avenue

The closure of Chestnut Avenue in Morwell took place in June 1984, with the reason predominantly being the road was being used by speeding and/or hooning drivers.

At the 4 September 2023 Council Meeting, Council resolved to undertake a consultation piece in response to a petition requesting that Chestnut Avenue in Morwell reopens to through traffic.

Council are now seeking feedback from impacted residents about whether or not they are supportive of the reopening of the road and why.

Based on feedback and other considerations such as cost and impact, Officers will make a recommendation to Council on whether the road should reopen.
