Consultation has concluded.

We want to hear from you!

Latrobe City Council has received funding to construct a multi-level car park over five levels in the place of the existing car park located between Kay and Grey Streets in the Traralgon Town Centre.

The project will provide around an additional 365 free spaces within the Traralgon Town Centre close to key amenities including the Creative Precinct, retail and hospitality businesses, Grey Street Primary School, and the Council Library and Service Centre.

The project extends on an additional 110 spaces currently under construction at the Seymour/Hotham Street multi-level car park.

Community consultation will be central to this project, and we invite you to participate in this online survey and/or community pop up information sessions to share your feedback to help shape the redevelopment of the car park. The online survey is anonymous and will be open until 17 March 2024.

Project Background

The project is part of the Victorian Governments Regional Car Parks Fund (RCPF), which is set to deliver 900 new spaces across Traralgon, Morwell and Moe.

In 2019, Latrobe City Council (Council) began working with Regional Development Victoria (RDV) to refine the list of potential sites of interest for the development for car parking. In October 2019, RDV led consultation on the potential sites of interest. There was strong community support for the proposed site between Kay Street and Grey Street in Traralgon. Following this consultation, Council endorsed the in-principle construction of a multi-level car park on its property between Kay and Grey Street, Traralgon at its April 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting.

Preliminary site assessments, including site surveys, cost plans, arborist assessment, cultural heritage management assessment and geotechnical and soil classification assessments were undertaken in 2020 to understand the specific opportunities and constraints of the site.

A grant agreement was entered between Council and the Department, Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) in August 2023 to construct and project manage delivery of a multi-level free public car park on the Council-owned Kay Street location. Council appointed Katz Architecture to commence design for the car park and Ethos Urban to provide community engagement and planning services for the project.
