On 24 February 2025, Latrobe City Council resolved to conduct public consultation on amending the Governance Rules to remove or change existing rules relating to notices of motion and petitions.
The rules under consideration for removal are as follows:
Rule 22 - sections that refer to notices of motion requiring a statement with justification and background; the ability of the CEO to reject and refer particular notices of motion; each notice of motion being accompanied in the Council Meeting agenda by an officer report providing certain additional information in respect of the motion; and a requirement to call for a Council report if the motion relates to expenditure in excess of $5,000 outside the Budget or establishes/alters a Council Policy.
Rule 67 - section that requires a 250 word limit for terms of a petition.
The rule under consideration for amendment is:
Rule 67 - removing the requirement to submit e-petitions through an approved Council e-petition facility.
